How to Protect Your Eyes this Summer

Summer season means being outdoors most of the time. It is the time for fun beach getaways, family gatherings, and group outings. You always see to it that you have all of your summer paraphernalia ready before you go. How about your protection against the harshness of the sun, particularly for your eyes? Read the tips below on how to take care of your eyes during summer:

Wear sunglasses w/ 100% UV protection
Only buy and wear sunglasses with 100% protection against UVA and UVB rays. They are not only a fashion statement; sunglasses are the best accessories you could have this summer. Choose frames that cover most of your eyes to help prevent eye damage such as cataract and macular degeneration. (See: Executive Optical Eyeglasses Frame)

Go for wide-brim hats or caps It doesn't only prevent the hair from being damaged by the heat of the sun, it also provides another layer of protection for your eyes so you won't be hit directly overhead by the sun's harmful rays.

Wear goggles when going for a dip
Make it a habit to wear goggles when swimming. It may be awkward or funny but you must be more conscious of the saltiness of sea water or chlorine in germs in swimming pools. You can close your eyes while under water but it blocks your vision. Better be safe than sorry.

Apply eye drops
Apply a recommended amount of eye drops after you swim or are being exposed to the sun for a long time. This over-the-counter medication helps eyes from redness and itching.

Never look directly at the sun
Even if you're wearing sunglasses, it is still not advisable to make direct eye contact to the sun. This may cause eye damage due to overexposure.

Drink plenty of water
It is really suggested to drink more water—about 8-10 glasses daily. This is necessary for the body to carry out its normal function as efficiently as possible. It also prevents the eyes from being dry. Water helps the eyes to produce moisture which removes the irritants that harms them.
